Skylight and Specialty Shapes
Skylights: Keep your Home Comfortable All Year Long.
The main benefit of skylight windows is to have better natural light to illuminate your space. However, at times the sun’s rays can be overwhelming to your eyes. Skylight shades can protect you against the blinding glare and are an integral part of keeping your home energy efficient all year round.
Most popular in design is a honeycomb or cellular shade for your skylight window. Honeycomb shades can withstand high levels of heat and sunlight. These are the most insulating shades to help keep your space cool in summer and warmer in the winter. Considering how much sun might be coming through your skylights and the fact that up to 50% of a home’s heating and cooling energy can be lost through your windows, a skylight shade is a very worthwhile investment.
Most skylights are in hard-to-reach locations. We suggest adding a telescopic extension pole to open and close the shade. For the best in convenience and ease of operation a motorized lifting system is well recommended. Raise or lower your shade with the touch of a button.
Consider the location of your skylight. For media rooms and bedrooms, you will want to think about going with a room darkening or blackout fabric to help with sleeping and naptime. For hallways or kitchens, a light filtering fabric will keep the room bright but block the sunlight that causes your room to overheat. The overabundance of light can be regulated to the desired levels by simply opening or closing the shade.
Specialty Shapes: Dynamic and Unusually Shaped Windows add a Sense of Character and Uniqueness..
Unusually shaped windows can add distinction and flair to a home. However, they can present challenges when trying to find the best way to cover them to add a decorative touch while providing privacy, light control, and insulation. Specialty shaped windows are available in several different shapes and sizes the most common being half-circle, oval, eyebrow, tunnel, elliptical, quarter circle, octagon, hexagon, full rake, half-rake, symmetrical angle top, and angle top.
Shutters and honeycomb shades are by far the most popular window treatments for specialty shaped windows. They are customizable to contour to almost any window configuration. Both treatments will provide privacy and light control. A shutter style will give you more options when it comes to controlling the light because of its horizontal louvered system. A custom shutter can still be made fully operational so simply tilt the louvers as desired to allow light in and block out the sun’s harmful rays. A honeycomb shade is recommended when room darkening is necessary. It will not allow as much “light leakage” as a shutter and is a better choice for bedrooms or media rooms where less light is ideal.
